New Real American Hero project

New Real American Hero project

I'm going to have a little fun this fall and create my own small Army for future battles.  What better them than to style them around my favorite iconic cartoon series!  I remember getting the first larger GI Joe figures that came with a 45 record book.  Those eventually gave way to the 3 3/4 action figures and vehicles.  This small battle group will reflect some of that nostalgia. First, the easy part.  Some decals to fit some of the vehicles that I'll get created. And a couple of vehicles to start.  First s slightly modified version of our Mercedes LAVPI'm...

Converting a Warlord Kangaroo to a Ram II

Converting a Warlord Kangaroo to a Ram II

After working on a conversion add-on for a customer, Company B's Bruce Meyer walks through the process of making his own Ram II tank for Canadian forces. This project originated as a client request to convert a platoon of Kangaroo Transport vehicles into the Ram II tank.  It's a simple conversion, requiring only the Ram II turret and no modifications to the base model.First, after getting blue prints and some data on scale, 3D artist Shane Smith builds out the turret in CAD. Turret complete, it's time to order a print!  For this project we go with shapeways.High Res Detail selected. Meanwhile, time...

Sherman M4A2E8 "Fury" Conversion

Sherman M4A2E8 "Fury" Conversion

I've been wanted to build a model of "Fury" for awhile. The tank used in the movie was an M4A2 Sherman tank named RON/HARRY (T224875), lent by The Tank Museum. It was meant to portray an M4A3E8 from early 1945 for the movie.  I thought it would be more interesting to create the actual tank used in the film.  This build will involve converting one of our Company B M4A2 tanks.1.) First off I'll need some decals. It's time to fire up the vector program and draw the markings! 2.) The font for the name looks to be hand painted.  Luckily, there are enough stills from...

Converting Models, Making the Ho-Ro from the Company B Chi-Ha

It's great that as a wargamer today, we have so may choices. Part of the fun of war-gaming though is scratch building and converting models into other variants.  With ready access to Chi-ha kits, I was able to convert a Chi-Ha set into the Ho-To Assault tank for my Japanese Forces. First thing was to cut out the crew compartment!  We did have some HoNi models, but rather than take one of those, we had plenty of Chi-Ha hulls to work from.  First step is to outline the cut. Once that is done, time to drill, cut and file! Next was to...

Oddball's M4A3 Sherman

Brent Dietrich Modeling Tips and Technique

Oddball's M4A3 Sherman

Company B's Brent Dietrich models the sherman commanded by Oddball from the movie Kelly's Heros. This 3D printed model features some unique pieces of stowage to make it stand out from the standard M4A3 sherman.  I've used the hull and turret from our forthcoming M4A3 set, and replaced the barrel with one from our 76mm turret to mimic the post war model utilized in the film.  Unique pieces were then created in CAD to allow this model to stand apart from your standard run of the mill M4A3 sherman.  We've added a coffee can, milk can, and german helmets to some...
